Recommended Specs

File Format

  • Google Play: JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha channel)
  • Maximum file size: 8 MB per screenshot (Google Play)

Color Space

  • Apple: sRGB or Display P3 (P3 gives richer colors on newer devices)
  • Google Play: sRGB only
  • Bit depth: 8-bit per channel (24-bit total)

Screenshot Count

  • Apple: minimum 3, maximum 10 per device size
  • Google Play: minimum 2, maximum 8 per device type
  • First 3 screenshots show in search results without scrolling

App Previews (Video)

  • Apple: up to 3 app preview videos (15-30 seconds each)

Safe Zones

Status Bar Area (top)

Keep important text and UI elements at least 140px from the top on iPhone screenshots (6.7" class). The status bar, Dynamic Island, and notch can obscure content. On iPad, allow 40px.

Home Indicator (bottom)

On Face ID iPhones, reserve 100px at the bottom for the home indicator bar. Content placed here may be partially hidden when users scroll through your screenshots.

Side Margins

Keep text at least 80px from the left and right edges. On smaller devices, the App Store may add slight padding that can clip edge content.

Text Readability at Thumbnail

In App Store search results, screenshots render at roughly 230px wide. Use font sizes of at least 7% of the canvas width for headlines to remain legible at thumbnail scale.

Quick Tips

  • 1Start with the 6.7" iPhone size. It is the primary display on the App Store and appears in search results.
  • 2Design at 1x and export at the required retina size. Working at full resolution can make text look too small.
  • 3Use the same visual style and color scheme across all device sizes for brand consistency.
  • 4Put your strongest feature in screenshot #1. Over 60% of visitors never scroll past the third screenshot.
  • 5If your app supports iPad, always provide iPad screenshots. Apple may reject universal apps without them.
  • 6Test your screenshots on a real device. Simulator screenshots may have subtle color and scaling differences.
  • 7Google Play crops the top and bottom of screenshots in some placements. Keep key content centered.
  • 8Use localized screenshots for your top markets. Localized screenshots can increase conversion by 20-30%.
  • 9Avoid large blocks of text. A short headline plus your app UI communicates faster than paragraphs.
  • 10Update screenshots with every major release. Stale screenshots signal an abandoned app.
